Jasper Baird was the seventh of nine children born to Oliver and Lavina (Hays) Baird in Troy, Illinois. Oliver and his family eventually settled in Carbondale, Jackson County, Illinois.

Jasper married Minta Macilla Watt, a granddaughter of Jasper's uncle Samuel M. Baird. Jasper and Minta were the parents of five children: Jessie, Byrle Newton, Jean Mable (Jennie), Beulah and Joe Baird.

Jasper also settled in the Carbondale area and is listed as a farmer in the 1910 census. His obituary also states he raised poultry, winning many prizes for his chickens.

Jasper is buried next to his wife Minta in the Watt family cemetery near Troy, Illinois.
