Well Known Taxicab Driver Expires At Hospital
Funeral services for William Acaley, 56, 419 Walnut street, a taxicab driver here for 25 years, who died yesterday at a local hospital where he had been a patient since July 8, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the McAllister-Julian funeral home, 304 North 5th street. Burial will be in Cedar Bluff cemetery.
Mr. Acaley, believed to have been Rockford's oldest taxicab driver in years of service, operated his own cab for about 15 years. In 1930, he became an employee of the Yellow Cab company.
through his cab driving, Mr. Acaley became well known to hundreds of local residents. He transported pupils of Freeman school for handicapped children from their homes to classes. The cab company is under contract with the board of education to furnish transportation for the pupils and Mr. Acaley was assigned this work.
Surviving are his widow, Pearl, three sons and a daughter. Two of the sons, Walter and Richard, are carrier-salesmen for the Morning Star.
