Howard E. "Dutch" Boerger, 83, of Olalla, WA died March 19, 2010 at Manor Care Health Services in Gig Harbor, WA. Dutch was born May 21, 1926 in Marysville, OH to Chris and Urta (Bishop) Boerger. He graduated from Marysville HS in 1944 and attended Capital University in Ohio. On January 25, 1948, Dutch married Vivian Bishop. He served in the Navy during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam as an antisubmarine warfare sonarman retiring as a Sr. Chief in 1976. Dutch later worked for the Shelton, WA school district from 1980 to 1991 as Director of Maintenance. He belonged to King of Glory Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor and was a former member of the Kitsap County Dahlia Association in Bremerton, WA and Puget Sound Dahlia Association in Seattle. Dutch enjoyed bowling, golf and gardening. He was preceded in death by his brother Russell Boerger. Survivors include his wife Vivian of Olalla; sons Rev. W. Chris (DeDe) Boerger and Ronald (Susan) Boerger, all of Everett, WA; daughter Cynthia (William) Irish, of Manchester, WA; brother Richard (Betty) Boerger, of Marysville, OH; sister Rose Worthington, of Marysville, OH; 5 grandchildren, John Boerger, Mary Caseley, Evan Boerger, Emily Boerger, and Sarah Boerger; 4 great grandchildren, Austin Bilbruck, Madison Boerger, Riley Boerger, and Ben Caseley. Services will be held 2PM, Thursday, March 25, 2010 at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 6411 154th St NW, Gig Harbor, WA. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. Memorial donations can be made to King of Glory Lutheran Church.
