Herbert Doyle Adkinson Sr. was born in Early County, Georgia and raised in Albany, Georgia.
He took pride in his career as a highly trained and skilled diesel Mechanic of 20 + years in Albany, GA. He was inspired by his late uncle, Charlie Lee Davis Jr to become a mechanic at the age of 15. Herbert was young in spirit,rough around the edges,Creative, quick witted southern gentleman known for cracking a joke or two and being a good story teller. He will be very much missed by those he leaves behind.
Herbert was the beloved adopted son of the late Huston & Doris (Bentley) Adkinson of Albany, Georgia. His birth father was the late William Joe Roach,of Baker County,GA. His birth mother is the late, Euna Davis Barfield of St.Petersburg, Florida. He is the birth grandson of the late, Charlie Davis Sr. & Lollie Maud Hall Davis of Baker County, GA.
Herbert has three children, Herbert Doyle Adkinson Jr. Maria Kinard, both of Ackerman, Mississippi and Pamela L Adkinson. He also leaves behind many loving siblings, George Roach, Dorthy Roach Hemling of Sylvester,GA, Maggie Camp, of St. Petersburg,FL, Eugene Davis of San Antonio, TX, William Roach Jr, Bobby Dean Roach Wylie Roach,Caullie Blue Roach,Velle Roach,of Baker County,GA Lorane Roach Carter, of Albany,GA Judy Barfield, Samuel Barfield of St. Petersburg, FL.
Herbert was diagnosed with skin cancer for 4 months and had 55 radiation treatments,and became very ill quickly. He was placed in Phoebe Putney hospital for 2 weeks and received a diagnosis of Stage 4 lung cancer that was separate from his skin cancer. He was transferred to the Wilson Hospice house in Albany, GA for palliative care. He was then transported to Hospice care in Ackerman, Mississippi where he could spend his precious last few weeks with his loving first wife, Mary Hawkins and their children together. He was pleased to be able to reunite with his grandchildren,Justin D. Adkinson, JoJo Reeves and Ashley Kinard and enjoy his last few weeks of memories together as a family again. Even though he only recently came back into their life, his family will always cherish the memories good and bad of him in their hearts. You can finally get some rest dad- I told you I would see you on the other side some day. Finally at peace and rest.
