James E. Cantrell, 79, of Bement passed away at 11:15 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 9, 2011) at his residence in Bement.

He was born on June 7, 1931 in Champaign County to Forest and Grace Bell Cantrell. He married Aline Bowlin on Feb. 26, 1967. She died on March 10, 1986. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one stepson and one stepdaughter.

He is survived by his children, Debra Keller of Houston, Texas, Nancy Ball of Liberty, Texas, Sandy Hite of Humboldt, James Cantrell of Houston, Texas, Edward Cantrell of Houston, Texas, Amy Cantrell of Bement and Rita Shaw of Bement; a stepson, Kenneth Marshall of Dothan, Alabama; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and four sisters, Bessie Burton of Bement, Wilma Tieman of Bement, Marian Mulvaney of Mattoon and Lois Cahill of Monticello.

He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army.
