Fairhaven — Boleslaw William Potkay, 78, of Fairhaven, died at home Friday, March 19, 1993. He was the husband of Ethel M. (Nemec) Potkay and son of the late Pawel W. and Anna (Schmidt) Potkay.
He was born in New Bedford and lived in Fairhaven for the past 43 years. He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and had served as a vestryman and church warden. He was employed as a weaver at the Potomska Mill and a loom fixer at the Wamsutta and Gosnold Mills and as a machine operator at the Continental Screw Co., retiring from the Berkshire Hathaway Corporation in 1979.
Subsequently, Mr. Potkay engaged in topiary gardening, woodworking and fabricating stained glass articles. His interest in sports, developed early through Tom Livesey of North Fairhaven, was lifelong. He was member of the Fairhaven Varsity Club and other regional sports organizations.
Survivors include his widow; two sons, Stephen Potkay of Germantown, Md. and Craig Potkay of East Bridgewater; two sisters, Anna Rita Lajmuc of New Bedford and Rose Ann Brown of Fairhaven; two brothers Mitchell of Fairhaven, and Eugene of Mattapoisett; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
