** In Loving Memory of Karen **
Karen is loved, missed and remembered forever in the hearts of the many of
us who loved her. Karen was born Karen Øverjordet in Norway. Karen lived in
Norway until she was about 6 yrs old. Karen's Parents, her Maternal
Grandmother Kari (Carrie) Botten, siblings Mattie, Arthur, Julia
and Karen immigrated from Norway to USA in approx. 1909. Kari Botten
was a Widow. Peter's Sister Hannah Gulbrandsen Øverjordet and her
Spouse Anton Olsen Mellemsdokken immigrated to the USA in 1901 with
their baby Alma. They became Hannah and Anton Olson when they moved
to MN. It appears per Family that Anton and Hannah sponsored Karen's Family
to come to the U.S.A. Each Family who arrived was sponsored by other
Family. Family tradition was they were expected to save money and sponsor
the next relative from Norway to come to America. They left their beautiful
Country of Norway to come to America, thought of as the land of opportunity
at that time. Karen's Family kept in close contact with Hannah and Anton's
Family. Karen's Family of origin lived in different areas of MN. Hannah's
Family was in Wadena Co. MN upon arrival. Karen and her Family spent
much time with Peter Sister Hannah's Family and their cousins. Karen's
Family initially lived in Mpls MN a short time, moved onto Kerrick Pine Co. MN,
then Moose Lake Carlton Co. MN. Sisters Karen and Mattie were identical
twins. Our Family had trouble telling them apart. We could tell them apart
when we visited with them, but now can't as we view their pictures
from years ago. Karen was smart, funny, compassionate, beautiful, a pleasure
to be with, kind, giving, outgoing. The terms "adorable and charming" may
best describe Karen, her sister Mattie, and some other Jordet siblings.
Karen was energetic, loved to dance and socialize. Everyone in our Family
has similar wonderful unforgettable images of Karen and Mattie and
many cherished fond memories. This writer remembers many Family Gatherings
and visits with them. Karen and Mattie were fascinating to listen to. Our Grandma
Oline Olson Carlson, Hannah and Anton's daughter, their cousin treated them
like they were royalty when they visited her home. Oline waited on
them, we waited on them. It was our honor as they were such a joy to spend
time with. Oline let our family know when they would be visiting or staying
so we had the chance to spend time with them...Our Dear Cousins Karen and Mattie
were identical twin sisters and best of friends. Karen, Mattie and their Sister
Julia initially left home when they were in their approx. mid- late teens They
worked for the Franklin Muzzy and Harriet Mcknight Crosby Family
including at the Crosby Mansion at 2120 Park Ave. S. Mpls. Julia married
and moved on. Karen and Mattie worked for the Crosby Family many years.
Karen and Mattie loved to tell the stories about their work at the Crosby Mansion,
the wonderful Gala Events. Lavish social events, charity events, public events.
The Crosby Family were very active in the community, General Mills, Washburn
Crosby Co. (WCCO) other work. Harriet's family of Origin, the Mcknight Family
owned 2200 Park Ave S. Mpls mansion too. The Mcknight Family are also
very active in many ways in the community. Karen and Mattie lived
in the servants quarters at the mansion. They worked for the Crosby
Family much of their life and continued to work for them and live with them
when the family moved to the Wayzata area. When Karen and Mattie visited their
family and friends had so many wonderful stories to share about their lives. Karen
and Mattie also loved to talk about Norway, relatives in Norway and attend
our family events. They helped other family communicate with our elatives
in Norway. Their were language barriers for other Family who
were not bilingual. Being able to spend time with Karen and Mattie
was a joy and an honor. They were always together at family gatherings.
They shared so much about their family history. Their Cousin, Oline, Daughter
of Anton and Hannah Olson, was one of their biggest fans. Oline was
always so excited when they were going to come and visit or stay with
her. It was a great blessing to spend time with Karen, Mattie and Oline.
Regardless of what age we were, they held our interest. Karen, Mattie and
Oline spent hours talking about family history as they drank coffee ate
their baked good treats or had their meals. Family history was
a passion for all three. They loved to sit and talk, laugh for hours.
Karen, Mattie and Oline also all attended the Festive Family
gatherings of Weddings, Birthdays, etc. This writer wishes we would have taken
notes or tape recorded some their wonderful family stories and history.
Norway was always in the heart of Karen and her sister Mattie. They
talked about how beautiful it was there and about Family in Norway.
There was a lot of T.B. in Norway and in America at that time. We
had many family who passed away from T.B. Oline did pass along much Family
History to our Family about Karen and her Family too. Karen married
late in life and her husband Lindor preceded her in death. Lindor was
a Widower when he married Karen. This was Karens only Marriage our
Family is aware of and she did not have any biological children .
Lindor is buried at the same cemetery as Karen. He shares a upright Headstone
with his first Spouse Clara. Karen became a Widow and spent more time
with Mattie again after Lindor passed away. Mattie never married. Karen and
Mattie were fluent in English and Norwegian. Karen and her family members
wrote back and forth to relatives in Norway. They communicated with Paternal
Grandfather Gudbrand, Paternal uncle Ole G. Øverjordet, other Family in Norway.
Karen and Mattie traveled to Norway up to approx. several times to visit
relatives in Norway. They may have other Jordet relatives in the USA that
immigrated from Norway. We have many fond cherished memories of Karen and
her Family. Thinking of Karen brings a smile to anyone's face who had the
joy to know her. Karen is survived by Nephews, Neices, Cousins, many Family
and Friends around the USA, including MN and in Norway.

Many Name changes from immigration to Norway. Spellings on documents
vary. Øverjordet to Jordet. Grandmother Botten was Kari Botten,
became Carrie in USA. Many records spell Botten as Botton, or other.
Peter was Gudbrand's Son. His name has been documented as Gulbrandsen.
Peter's Sister, from birth in Norway was listed as baby Gulbransdatter
and that stuck with her name. Peter's Sister Hannah had Gulbrandsdatter as
her maiden name in our Family bible. Peter was born Gudbrandsen, but that
has different spellings. Our Olsen relatives who immigrated from Norway
mostly became Olson in USA. One of our Olson Family, Karen's Cousin,
brother of Oline, was born in MN and changed his name back to Olsen when he
was an adult. He wanted the Olsen spelling from his Father Anton's
given name in Norway. Anton kept Olsen, changed to Olson, dropped
his Farm name of Mellemsdokken. Peter kept his Farm name of Øverjordet,
changed to Jordet and used Gudbrandsen as his middle name.
Sisters Karen and Mattie , Cousin Oline used to talk about the name changes
a lot as they tried to educate us about Family History. Karen's Paternal Grandfather
was Gudbrand Hansen Flaate. After he married Kari Øverjordet and they lived
at the Øverjordet farm in Norway, he was given the farm name. He died elsewhere
so it is not clear if he kept the Øverjordet name. In a family tree, handwritten from
years ago, found in Cousin Aless Olsen's (son of Aunt Hannah Jordet Olson) heirlooms,
Gudbrand was referred to in an addendum at the bottom, as "Grandfather Jordet "
when he passed away. Also at the bottom added info was Grandmother Botton. Karen's
Grandmothers Given name was Botten. Both dates of death match.

Karen's Spouse Lindor shares an upright grave monument with his first spouse
Clara. Lindor also has a US Military Grave Marker. Karen is buried near Lindor.

Karen's Family history is included in the Carlson Olsen Ancestry. com

history included on Karen's Parents, Siblings Memorials and other Family
