Funeral services for Josie Bauman, 89 of Fargo, a long-time Rutland, ND resident, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2003 at the Nordland Lutheran Church of Rutland. Rev. Kristen Schwan will officiate. Burial will be in the Nordland Cemetery of Rutland, under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Forman, ND. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral chapel. Visitation will be Friday, from 3:00 p.m. until the conclusion of the prayer service at the funeral chapel in Forman, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church in Rutland, on Saturday.

She died Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at Bethany Home in Fargo.

Josie Irene Breum was born August 14, 1913 at Madison, MN to John and Ingeborg (Sjothun) Breum. As a youngster, she moved with her family to the Rutland, ND area. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Rutland High School.

On October 4, 1941 she married Walter Bauman at Forman, ND. They lived for a short time in Fairmount, ND and Willmar, MN before moving to Rutland in 1947. Walter died on April 5, 1992 and Josie continued to make her home in Rutland until 1998. At that time she moved to Fargo, to be near her children and grandchildren. She was a resident of the Bethany Nursing Home in Fargo at the time of her death.

Josie was a lifetime member of the Nordland Lutheran Church of Rutland, and active in the life of the church. She was also very supportive of all civic and community activities in Rutland.

Josie is survived by one son: Bruce Bauman and Rhonda of Mandan, ND; two daughters: Bonita Sundlie of Horace, ND and Arlene Nelson of Fargo; two grandsons: Barry Sundlie of Horace; Corey Kiefer of Minneapolis, MN; five granddaughters: Lisa Kiernan of Horace; Jolene Sundlie of Fargo; Angela Kiefer of Fargo; Tehar Ramert of Big Lake, MN; and Mariah Nelson of Fargo; two great-granddaughters: Hannah Kiernan and Kaitlin Sundlie; two great-grandsons: Trent Ramert and Spencer Sundlie; and one sister: Clara Flados of Bowman, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a half brother: Lars Hillestad; a foster brother, Kenneth Jackman; a brother, Ole Breum and three sisters: Ida Brown, Hannah Murray and Bertha Berg.

Music for the funeral will be provided by Irma Chamberlain, organist with Doris Olson and Kathleen Thomas, vocalists. Casket bearers will be Barry Sundlie, Corey Kiefer, Sean Kiernan, Jason Ramert, Paul Anderson and Tim Bauman.
