John Henry was born on Saturday, August 24, 1918 to his loving parents, John Quincy Brewer and Elizabeth Augusta Fields in Chatham County, North Carolina. He was the sixth child of eight to be born to John and Gussie with two more sisters to come.

John Quincy Brewer at the age of thirty-eight and his wife Gussie Brewer at the age of thirty-four already had 6 children. John Henry was welcomed into the world by five of them listed in the order they came in the 1920 census in Bear Creek, Chatham County, North Carolina, United States: Robert Roy Brewer, Clarence 'Whittie' Brewer, James Carl Brewer, Eugene 'Gean' Preston Brewer and Pearl Brewer, ranging in age from three to thirteen with John Henry being one in 1920. In the next census there would be two more girls, Ruby Leota Brewer and Virginia Opal Brewer.

John Henry loved country music and he and the band would go to different events in the area to entertain the people gathered there...and also themselves...they loved to play and sing and most of the time they would carry their wives and girl friends for support.

On Saturday, June 7, 1941, he went to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, United States, and as a citizen of the U.S. enlisted into Military Service as a private in the United States Army, to serve his country. At that time he was single and without dependents. When he returned he had been promoted to Sergeant in WWII.

After his return, he became associated with Carolina Stock Yards in Siler City, North Carolina having achieved part ownership. He was an auctioneer there for many years and was very entertaining and enlightening to listen to. He met and married Barbara Jean Richardson of Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina who at one point was a race car driver. On Saturday, January 26, 1957 he and Barbara welcomed their first and only child into the world...a little girl they called 'Debbie'. John Henry was a very devoted husband to his wife and father to his child. On the Sunday morning that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, he walked down the isle with tears streaming down his face and carrying his little girl…he was preparing to raise his daughter in a Christian way. He loved God and was very generous to his church with his time and finances.

It was a very sad day for family and friends on Friday, April 13, 1979…John Henry passed away at the age of sixty. He died in Siler City, Chatham County, North Carolina and on Sunday, April 15, 1979 he made his last trip to his beloved church, Brush Creek Baptist Church on Airport Road, Bear Creek, North Carolina and was laid to rest there in the cemetery. John Henry Brewer had accomplish much in his short lifetime and had lived a full life in his sixty years.

Thank You JOHN HENRY BREWER, for Serving our County.
