Charles Henry Overby, age 89, died March 25, 1996 in Ashburn, Turner County, Georgia. He was born on June 27, 1906. He was the son of Henry Clinton "Clint" Overby (1888-1953) and Minnie Jones (1888-1956) both from North Georgia. He had 16 siblings: Nila Overby, Addie Velma Overby Young (1905-1994), Lessie Overby (1907-1995), Narcy R. Overby (1907-?), Collie Luther "Bill" Overby, 1909-1975), Polly Overby 1901-?), Dorothy L. He married (in 1921) to Ila B. Kimbro (1908-1930) when he was 15 and she was 13. Ila's mother had died the previous year at a young age. They had three children: Evelyn Addie Overby (1925-1999), Homer Geneva Overby (1928-1933), and Charles David Overby (1930-2007). Ila died 4 days after giving birth to Charles David due to childbirth complications. He then moved with his small children into the home of his sister, Addie, as seen on the Federal Census of 1930. He then eventually moved with his small children to Turner County to be with his mother and father who had moved to Turner County temporarily (by 1935, the parents had moved back to North Georgia). This is where he met Lula Beatrice Mangum.
Charles Henry Overby married Beatrice Mangum on February 24, 1927. Beatrice had one small child of her own, Billy Clyde Mangum. Charles Henry raised Billy Clyde as if his own and Beatrice raised Charles Henry's children as if they were hers. They has had eight children together: Izola Overby Skipper, Dorothy Mae Overby Lacey, Henry Delano "Buddy" Overby, Clarence Wyman Overby, Clinton Lee "Zeke" Overby, John Kenneth "Johnny" Overby, and Earl Franklin Overby.
He was a crop farmer most of his life. Worked in Rebecca and Ashburn, Georgia. He lived in Ashburn up to his death of failure to thrive, diabetes mellitus, and pneumonia.
