Laura Etta Dawson Clelland Kinney died at the age of 72 from pneumonia she had for 6 days prior to death. She also had carcinoma of the sigmoid (colon cancer) diagnosed 2 years prior to her death. This was complicated with the diagnosis of diabetes that was diagnosed 10 years prior to her death. She was the daughter of John A Dawson and Amy Cain from Indiana. She was Born July 9, 1866 in Grant, Indiana. She had 9 siblings: Francis Dawson, Louisa C. Dawson, William A Dawson, Rolla Vincent Dawson, Arnaldo Dawson, Orlando Dawson, Josephine Dawson, Mary "Mary" E. Dawson, and Bertha Olive Dawson.

She married Wilson T. Clelland February 2, 1888. To this union were born seven children, Edith Cain of Sante Fe, Homer of Kokomo, Lawrence of Marion, Ersie Troyer of Kokomo, Minnie Knox, John, and Elva of Converse.

When her first husband died in 1917, she then married Leonard Kinney. She was living southeast of Converse and died of complication of ailments at her home on July 11, 1938. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. (CST) in Wesleyan Methodist church at Converse, followed by interment in Amboy Cemetery. The Kinney home was in Howard County.

Survivors include the husband, three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Knox and Mrs. Elva Hatfield, both of Converse, and Mrs. Mary Troyer, living west of Converse; three sons, Lawrence Clelland, John Clelland, and Homer Clelland.

She was a devoted sister, mother, and grandmother. Her lifetime of kind deeds will be an inspiration to the community and stand as a monument.
