Henry Newton Ambrose died at the age of 88 due to chronic dilatation of the heart in Rebecca, Turner County, Georgia on July 24, 1936 at 11:00 am. He was the son of John William Ambrose and Manervey Mulkey, both of Tennessee.

He was a retired farmer. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
He enlisted in Company Gordon's Georgia 1st Infantry Regiment on 20 September 1861 at the age of 13 and then he was transferred to Company C, Georgia 13th Infantry Battalion on 26 April 1862. Then on December 15, 1862 he was transferred to Company B, Georgia 63rd Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to Full Musician on 31 January 1863.

He married Sarah Elizabeth Puckett in about 1877; To their union, they had one daughter, Mildred Asilee Ambrose. His wife Sarah died in 1882, and he married Nancy Elizabeth (unknown maiden at present) in 1884 and they had 8 children: Permelsie A. (1880-?), John W. D. P. Ambrose (1882-?), Nancy E. Ambrose (1883-?), Missouri C. Ambrose (Taylor) 1885-1966, Ida f. Ambrose (1889-?), Emory Scott Ambrose (1891-1967), Thomas W. Ambrose (1892-1963), and Adolphus C. Ambrose (1896-?).
