John Lee Cain, Jr., 79, died at 11:10 a.m., Sunday, May 26, 1996 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born September 28, 1916 in Miami County to John and Edith Clelland Cain. He married Loretta Wolf in Peru on February 28, 1943. She survives.
He was aWabash County resident for 45 years and a Wabash Railroad engineer. He also was an employee and owner of Dyes Tavern. He held memberships in the Elks Lodge, Peru; Eagles and Moose, Wabash; Wabash Shrine Club; Masonic Lodge, Peru; Scottish Rite & Shriners, Fort Wayne; and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include a son: Peter Cain, Peru; a daughter, Margaret Runkle, Wabash; a brother, Paul Cain, Marion; and three sisters: Theresa Reese, Sweetzer; Olive Dice, Peru, and Esther Bragg, Marion, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services are Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Eddingfield/Delaughter Mortuary, Wabash, with the Rev. David Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Peru. Visitation is today from 2-8 p.m. Memorials should be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
His deeds will stand as a monument, and his life was an inspiration to every youth in the community. He was a devoted brother, uncle, husband, and father.
