Cynthia Moffit aka Maffett Massie died at the age of 83 due to LaGrippe (influenza) at the age of 84 on her death certificate on February 22, 1896 near Frankfort, Marshall County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Tunis Maffett (1788-1870) and Sara B. McCormick Maffett (1795-1874). She was Born in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
According to her daughter Mildred Hoffman, she was a "lovely, slender lay in her old age" and sometimes smoked a small clay pipe. She came from Ohio to Vermillion Township, Marshall County, Kansas in a covered wagon drawn by Oxen. She had thirteen children including two sets of twins. Grandma Walker was one of the twins, and her twin was Sanford.
She married William Benjamin Massie and he died in 1868 at the age of 59 in Ohio and is buried in HIghland County, Ohio.
