Dorothy Mae "Dot" Overby Lacey was born November 7, 1934 in Rebecca, Georgia. Her parents were Charles Henry Overby and Beatrice Lula Mangrum Overby. She had eight siblings: Billy Clyde Mangrum (who is Missing In Action from Korean War and declared dead in 1953), Izola Overby Skipper, Henry Delano "Buddy" Overby, Clarence Wyman Overby, Clinton Lee "Zeke" Overby, John "Johnny" Kenneth Overby, and Earl Franklin Overby.
She was married in Turner County to Harmon C. Adams and had 3 boys: David Adams, Walter Charles (W.C.) "Doc" Adams and Billy Dwayne Adams. She later married James Delmer Lacey.
She was a homemaker and close to her family. Billy was still in high school and went to live with his grandmother, Dot's mother, Beatrice Overby, when Dorothy died.
She died at the age of 37 with brain cancer, pulmonary infection, pulmonary emboli after being treated in Palmyra Park Hospital Albany, Dougherty County, Georgia for eight weeks. She was residing in Turner County prior to her death and had been transferred to the hospital in Dougherty County, Georgia due to her illness.
Her influence and her deeds will linger as sacred memories in the minds of all who have known her.
