Josephine A. Boreas, 82, a former Staten Islander known for her warm and generous personality, died Saturday at her home in Manchester, N.J.
Born Josephine Corebello on Staten Island, she was raised in West Brighton and graduated from Curtis High School. She worked as an executive assistant at Fidiciary Trust in Manhattan for 10 years, and moved to New Jersey with her family 38 years ago.
Mrs. Boreas "loved people, and they loved her," said her son, Andre. "She was larger than life — a heart filled with love for anyone who met her. She loved Staten Island and loved growing up there." She was passionate about southern Italian cooking and gardening. "When she was done cooking, she's start again and cook some more," said her son. "Her manicotti was famous. She taught me how to cook — I have a lot of great memories of cooking with my mom."
Mrs. Boreas was a member of the Italian American Club and the Leisure Village West Garden Club, both in Manchester, and a long-time parishioner at St. John's R.C. Church in Lakehurst, N.J.
Her husband of 42 years, Willem, predeceased her in 2006. In addition to her son, Andre, she is survived by her daughter, Michelle Boreas, and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Oliverie Funeral Home, Manchester, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. John's Church. Burial will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veteran's Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J.
