William Hughes Chapman Jr., 75, of Ludowici, passed away Saturday evening, March 14, 2015, in the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.

He was born in Long County and lived there his entire life. He retired from ITT Rayonier in Jesup as a lead operator in the power house and he farmed the family land all of his life. He served in the Army National Guard, was a member of Long County Hunting Club, Altamaha Masonic Lodge #227, F&AM and First Baptist Ludowici.

His parents, William Hughes Sr. and Kathlie Simmons Chapman, preceded him in death.
Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Taylor Chapman of Ludowici; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy Poole and husband, Vince, Joann Thorn and husband, Jim, of Ludowici; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim Chapman and wife, Staci, of Ludowici; a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly Purcell and husband, Richard, of Savannah; a brother, Larry Chapman of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, Michael (Erin), Russ (Brianne), Lee (Valarie), Ryan, Emma, Zach, Hayley, Amy (Adam) and Leah (Dakota); great-grandchildren, Leilah, Abby, Braedon, Bristol, Brook-Lyn, Kevin, Jake, Faith and Gabe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 20 at the First Baptist Church in Ludowici with the Rev. Eric Rentz and David Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will start at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at First Baptist Church in Ludowici.
