Homer Eugene Black (Gene) peacefully passed away, with his wife by his side, after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer's on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Wesley Homes in Des Moines, WA under the watch of his numerous outstanding caregivers.
Gene was born on March 4, 1930 in Blencoe, IA. Gene grew up on the farm. He served in the Army on the front lines in Korea in the 50's. He owned and operated the Standard Oil Tank Wagon Service from 1952 to 1960. He married Virginia Livengood on September 7, 1954.
They had three children, Randy (Carmen), Carolyn (Kevin) Henderson, Ken (Sheila), five grandchildren, Adrienne (Ryan) Jorgensen, Brice, Lauren, Conner and Avery, and two great grand-children, Olivia and Kyler.
Gene will be remembered for his love of family, friends and fun. He especially looked forward to family gatherings in Iowa. He loved the beach and the mountains., Gene and Virginia had many wonderful trips with family and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lucile and Homer and a brother, Don.
Gene is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and sisters and brothers, Bob (Mavis), Darlene (Ed) Ferris, Betty (Lee) Hileman, Donna (Ralph) Wickersham, Ed (Janice) and Dick (Mary) and many friends.
Memorial services were held Friday, September 2, 2011 at Bible Chapel in Auburn, WA where Gene had been a member many years. Private inurement will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA.
Arrangements were by Klontz Funeral Home, Auburn, WA.
