Her mother, Melvina, is curiously absent for the 1870 Census, but her sons are listed with their maternal grandparents. Melvina has a residence of Colchester at the time of the births. It seems a bit early historically for the area to have a home for unwed mothers. Extended family in the Colchester area may have provided her and her mother a home.
Excerpts of her obituary. Note: No parents given at all.
"Mrs. Clark was born in Colchester, October 18, 1867 [sic]. She was married to Nathan F. Clark of Granitville in the town of Milton [sic], where she and her family resided after leaving Colchester. . . ."
"Also surviving are a great granddaughter [Lucy Hutchinson] and a sister, Miss Bertha Riddick of Milton."
