Jack passed away at Memorial Hospital on the evening of March 20, 2012. His passing came quickly and unexpectedly and was caused by heart and lung failure.
Jack wore many hats.
He was a loving husband and is survived by his wife of 31 1/2 years, Cathy. He was a devoted father and is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Lydia Boutwell of Bakersfield; his daughter, Amber Dienhart of Las Vegas; and his daughter, Robin Boutwell of Las Vegas. He was a proud and doting grandfather and is survived by his grandson, Jason Boutwell of Bakersfield; his granddaughters, Vanessa Boutwell and her fiance, Ben Henry of San Francisco, Madison Dienhart of Las Vegas, Mackenzie Dienhart of Las Vegas, and Alex Boutwell- O'Shea of Las Vegas. He was predeceased by his mother, Eleanor De Lucca Of Mass. He is also survived by numerous first cousins and their families, his aunt, Norma Nicolazzo of Mass.; and numerous sisters and one brother-in-law and their families from his first marriage. In addition, he is survived by scores of caring and loving friends. His careers were numerous.
He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, beginning in 1952. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. At the time of his death, he was a disabled veteran. While serving in the military, and after his retirement, he was a bartender.
Locally, he tended bar in Tehachapi and Bakersfield and was known to all as "Fat Jack." He was also a fantastic pool player. He was a roughneck for Gary Drilling Co. in the '70s and '80s for a little over 10 years. He left the oilfields due to hand surgery. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service out of the Pegasus facility in Bakersfield as a mail handler for 12 years. He and his wife, Cathy, thoroughly enjoyed their retirement and continued to travel as they had throughout their marriage. Jack always had a joke and kept us laughing wherever we gathered. He also cared deeply for his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. A committal service with military honors will follow at 1:15 p.m. at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mt. Blvd. in Arvin.
