I. Joseph Schwartz, 84, of Las Vegas, passed away July 7, 2009. He was born April 19, 1925, in Chicago, and was a 26-year resident of Nevada.
Joseph was a retired mortgage banker and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Joseph was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Zelzah Shrine, past master of the Masonic Daylight Lodge No. 44, Jewish War Veterans Post 711, Scottish Rite, Legion of Honor, Quetzalcoatl Order of Knights, Eagles & Tigers, Military Order of Trench Rats, VFW, Paralyzed Veterans of America and Congregation Ner Tamid.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Sammy and Manny Schwartz.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Sondra Schwartz; son, Joel (Cathy) Schwartz of Las Vegas; daughter, Alberta (Ira) Bilson; son, Al (Bobbie) Sapper, all of Beverly Hills, Calif.; daughter, Beth Golstyn of Van Nuys, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City. Donations can be made to the Military Order of the Purple Heart or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
