Obituary of Wm. Bathen
Born in Peoria, Ill., April 12, 1859
Passed Away Sept. 11, 1938
William Wellington Bathen was born in Peoria, Ill., April 12, 1859 and died at the home of his daughter near Waterloo, Sept. 11 at the age of 79 years.
He was one of a family of five brothers and one sister, all of whom preceeded him in death.
While a young man, his family moved to the vicinity of Waukon where they were engaged in farming. Later they moved west of Riceville, where he continued farming.
In 1880 he was married to Elizabeth Neumuth. To this union were born four daughters and two sons; Mrs. Dorothy Goodrich, Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Stanley Taylor of Waterloo; Cora Bathen of Glenwood, Iowa; Robert Bathen of St. Paul; Mrs. George Branscombe of Mason City and Leo of Riceville.
While still a young man, poor health caused him to discontinue farming and he moved to Riceville where he lived until 1921. Since then he and his wife had made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Stanley Taylor of Waterloo and Hudson. After twenty-one years of continuous suffering from the effects of an accident, he was again forced to his bed, continually failing in health, passing into a coma Sunday morning September 11, from which he did not awaken. He died of uremic poisoning Sunday.
Surviving his death are his widow and immediate family, also 17 grand-children and 10 great-grandchildren.
