Mary Ann was living in Pleasant Twp., Johnson Co. when she married on 4 July, 1850, John Parkhurst(Parcus) Harbert, a carpenter. Their daughter, America, was born 2 Nov. 1851. The family moved to Peoria Co. Ilinois in 1853 and their son Benjamin F. was born there on 6 July, 1853. The same year the family moved west to Mills Co. Iowa, as did Mary Ann's father, Michael. Her daughter Catherine Elizabeth (Katie) was born in Iowa in Jun. 1856, Michael H. b. 2 Aug. 1859, and John Edward b. 2 Mar. 1863. Her husband died on 9 Feb. 1865.
She married on 3 Mar. 1866 David McDowell b. abt. 1830 in Mills Co. They had a son, James McDowell b. abt. 1868 but her husband died soon after.

The marriage was not successful, partly because of conflicts between the children of both families. The couple divorced.
She and many of her children moved to Macedonia Twp., Pottawattamie Co. Iowa. She lived with her son Sherman Jasper until his marriage to Nora Geneva Bradley.
Her daughter America Harbert Creamer moved to Belden, Cedar Co. Nebraska and her daughter Katie married J.M. Coons of Macedonia.
