Gus married Estella Florence (Stella) Weischedel 6/23/1909 in Lewiston, Sully co. SD. He was a farmer, who grew up in Franklin co. Missouri, then moved to Arkansas, then South Dakota in 1898 to work for his cousin Henry Esselbruegge, then to farm with his brother Alex. He sang and played the banjo. Gus and Stella had 5 children: Grace Irma 5/27/1910, Calvin Henry (Cal)1/5/1912,born in a blizzard, Mrytle Evelyn 10/12/1914, Charles Richard 7/19/1917, & Arlene Marie 8/3/1919. They also raised Hazel & Minnie Mae Flood who became orphaned in 1934.
