Deacon Elijah Knight was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 1 p.m. He was born on November 22, 1932 to the union of Mose Knight, Sr. and Lola Ely Knight in Gosport, AL. Deacon Knight was a resident of Crowne Nursing Home, Mobile, AL. He served faithfully as a deacon of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church for many years. Having been reared in a Christian family, his love for Christ was apparent to all. Dr. H.H. Fields saw leadership qualities consequently or-daining him to serve as a deacon. He served the office of a deacon with integrity and boldness under the leadership of Dr. Fields and Pastor Clarence Drakes for many years. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably dis-charged. He was the Wor-shipful Master of lodge 138A for many years. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. He leaves to cherish his wife for many years, Lela Knight; one daughter Cheryl (Gary) Douglas, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three sisters Mattie Trotter, Minnie Reed, Carrie Young; two stepsisters, Bernice Dukes, Mamie Young; one step-brother, Henry Tate and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 27 Norton Ave. Saraland, AL from 9am until the 11am funeral hour Rev. Clarence Drakes Pas-tor and Rev. Kenneth Young Officiating. Interment will follow in the Bailey Ceme-tery Saraland, AL. Arrangements are entrusted to the careful direction of Reese Funeral Home.
