Mary Catherine Culberson was born November 15, 1904 in Ft Smith, Arkansas (Sebastian County), daughter of James Culberson, a well-known Choctaw Indian, and Martha Virginia Harris. Mary was 1/4 Choctaw Indian. Mary grew up in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) and graduated from Durant High School and later graduated from Rhodes College at Memphis, Tennessee. Mary taught school in Covington, Tennessee for 30 years.
The 1920 Federal Census for Durant Ward 3, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Mary Catherine Culberson, age 15, born in Arkansas; living with her father, James Culberson, age 49, a farmer who owned his own farm, born in Oklahoma; and his wife, Martha, age 47, born in Arkansas. Also living with them were Mary Catherine's three siblings: James Culberson Jr., age 18, born in Oklahoma; John Culberson, age 11, born in Oklahoma; and Ruth Culberson, age 9, born in Oklahoma.
Mary married Thomas Hughes Bringle, who was born September 27, 1903 in Covington, Tennessee (Tipton County), son of Walter Verble Bringle (1879-1953) and Lucy Hughes (1880-1956).
The 1930 Federal Census for Covington, Tennessee (Tipton County) shows T. Hughes Bringle, an attorney-at-law, age 26, born in Tennessee; living with his father, Walter V. Bringle, an attorney-at-law, age 59, born in Tennessee; and his mother, Lucy H., age 50, born in Kentucky. Also living in the household was Hughes' wife, Mary Catherine, age 25, born in Arkansas; and Hughes' and Mary's first-born child, Martha H. Bringle, age 3 months, born in Tennessee.
Hughes and Mary ultimately had three children: Martha Hughes Bringle (1930-1949); Walter Bringle (1935- ); and Beverly Bringle (1938- ).
The 1940 Federal Census for Covington, Tennessee (Tipton County) shows Hughes Bringle, an attorney-at-law, age 36, born in Tennessee; and his wife, Mary, age 35, born in Arkansas. Living with them were three children: Martha H. Bringle, age 10; Walter Bringle, age 5; and Beverly Bringle, age 2; all born in Tennessee.
Mary died at age 84 on July 30, 1988 in Covington, Tennessee (Tipton County) and was buried there in the Munford Cemetery near her mother. Hughes died in March 1984 in Covington, Tennessee and was buried beside his wife.

Mary Culberson Bringle of Covington died unexpectedly in Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton. Born in Durant, Oklahoma, she was a daughter of James M. and Martha V. Harris Culberson. A retired school teacher, she was a member of Covington First Baptist Church where she was a librarian and a Sunday School teacher. She was the widow of Thomas Hughes Bringle.
Services were held Monday morning in her church of membership with Reverend Jimmy Sartain and Reverend Henry G. West officiating. Interment was in Munford cemetery with Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bringle leaves a son, Walter Verble Bringle of Rockport, Texas; a daughter Beverly Bringle of Concord, Massachusetts; a brother James M. Culberson of Asheboro, North Carolina; a sister Ruth C. Robertson of Ardmore, Oklahoma; and two grandchildren.
