Mabel D. Ammons, 86, Alma, Mich., formerly of Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2007.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, at the Augusta Church of Christ.

Mabel was born on Sept. 24, 1920, in Pauls Valley, Okla., the daughter of Otha and Katherine (Cruzan) Branstetter. She married Ford Ammons on Aug. 30, 1941, in Pauls Valley and moved to Augusta. She worked as a lunchroom cook and supervisor at Lincoln Elementary School in Augusta for many years and was an active member of the Augusta Church of Christ. Mabel enjoyed doing craft work in her spare time and loved to help others.

She is survived by: one daughter, Carol Sue (Don) Metzger of Alma, Mich.; son, Calvin Gene Ammons of Wichita; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Barton (Alta) Branstetter of Klamath Falls, Ore.; special niece, Margie Claborn of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ford in 1997; grandson, Justin Metzger in 2003; three brothers and three sisters.
