:While a member of George Maxwell's Company, Virginia Militia, Thomas Toms participated in the Battleof King's Moyntain against the Loyalist Corps led by British Major Patrick Ferguson on 7 October 1780. During the battle, Thomas was severely wounded in the head, being scalped on the left temple by a stroke from a hatchet. He was also injured in the left eye, two fingers of the left hand and his right hip and neck."

!PENSION APPLICATION, Revolutionary war, fought in battle of King's Mountain,
7th Oct., 1789, was scalped by Indians and left for dead. He survived and lived
for several more years.
