Florence Hobt was the oldest child of Albert Hobt and Mary Catherine Watt Hobt. She had two siblings. She became a math teacher and taught at Lincoln High School in Ferndale, Michigan. She never married and died as a result of a car accident. She was engaged to be married at the time of her death. Her engagement ring was given to her only niece as a high school graduation gift.
