Kenneth H. Burkett, 80, of Benton, died at 2 a.m. Monday, January 1, 2007, in Herrin Hospital in Herrin.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. A private visitation will be held prior to the service. Poulson Funeral Home in Benton is handling the arrangements.

He was born Aug. 9, 1926, in Benton, the son of Howard Kenneth and Marie (Dorris) Burkett. He married Opal J. (Lynn) Burkett, who survives in Benton.

Mr. Burkett retired as a salesman for Mine Supply. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include three sons, Kelvin Burkett and wife, Betty, of Richman, Va., John Burkett and wife, Tammy, of Van Buren, Ark., and David Daisy and wife, Conya, of Springfield; three daughters, Kim Pruett and husband, Thomas, of Centralia, Nancy J. Menez and husband, Alejandro, of Corpus Cristi, N.M., and Holly Ballegeer and husband, Craig, of Van Buren, Ark.; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Dorris Hart of Benton.

His parents preceded Mr. Burkett in death.
