Harold A. Applegate
Harold A. Applegate, 81, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
Born July 12, 1926, in Shelby County, he was the son of Frank C. and Grace (Hendricks) Applegate. He married Esther M. Mann on July 28, 1954, and she survives.
Other survivors include his son, Joseph A. Applegate of Greensburg; sister, Rose Marie Scudder of Shelbyville; and grandchildren, Ariel Rose Applegate and Hannah Nicole Applegate.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Francis Applegate, Merrill Applegate, Benjamin Applegate and Jessie Applegate; and sister, Mildred McColley.
Mr. Applegate had lived in Decatur County for 37 years. He had previously lived in Shelbyville.
He had been employed at GE/Wellman Thermal Systems for 32 years, retiring in 1988.
Mr. Applegate was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, attaining the rank of corporal.
He graduated from Waldron High School.
Mr. Applegate was a member of the American Legion in Greensburg.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, 106 E. Franklin St. in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy Hooten officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Shelby County, with military rites conducted by local veteran organizations.
