Emery Lee was the first child of 6 children born to Lee Moore and Mary Jane Harden Briggs. He was born and raised on Rice Creek, Flag Pond., T.N. Emery was inducted into the united states army at Fort Oglethorpe, G.A. on May 4, 1942. on August 5,1942 he was in battle A 495th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion as a machine gunner and cannoneer. He was engaged in many ground combat operations in Central Europe, Northern France, Normandy and Rhineland. While there he received the good conduct medal and European African Middle Eastern Service medal with 1 silver star. He bravely served his country for 3 years and 5 months. He was honorably discharged at Fort McPherson, G.A. Shortly after returning home he meet Nola Cornelia Hensley. They married on June 11, 1946 in Spartanburg S.C. there first child Genevieve was born April 5,1947, then Phillip Lee was born March 14, 1950, Last was Gary Lynn Briggs born February 15 1959. Emery worked for Vestal Lumber but after the mill shut down he and his Brother Glade Briggs opened a grocery store and gas station, between Forty Fork and Flag Pond. In 1968-69 they built a home where they lived 15 years. Emery could be found in his basement work shop building and repairing small engines for anyone who need it. Emery was known for his hard work and family values. Emery went to be with the Lord on December 28 1984. He is loved and missed by all who knew him. Grandchildren include Jodi Lee Briggs, David Richard Shelton 2nd, Jason Anthony Briggs, Nathan Lee Briggs,Travis Lynn Briggs,Danielle Renee Shelton. GREAT Grandchildren include Samantha Lee Briggs, Tesla Dezaray Briggs, Emma Kaydance Briggs, and Lilah Ray Lynn Briggs.
