Donald Victor Berning, 72, of Orlando, Fla., died recently in Orlando.
He was born April 17, 1938, and grew up on a farm in Marienthal. After graduating from Wichita County Community High School, he entered the U.S. Air Force. He retired after 20 years in the service and then worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring from there after 20 years.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Berning of Orlando, and Leroy Berning of Kissimmee, Fla.; two daughters, Wanda Mentzer and Sheila Sanantonio, both of Orlando; four brothers, Raymond Berning of Wichita, Andy Berning of Kearney, Neb., Ken Berning of Portland, Ore., and Jerome Berning of Scott City; four sisters, Margaret Mary of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Louise McCombs and Linda Appl, both of Scott City, and Anita Hanzlick of Kansas City, Kan.; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ludwig and Anna Berning, who had lived in Scott City; and two sisters, Leona Armstrong and Freida Perry.
Graveside service was at Florida National Cemetery for Veterans in Bushnell, Fla., with the Honor Guard performing.
