|Birth: ||Mar. 18, 1895|

He was born to Joseph Ely Doss and Sarah Elizabeth Flowers on March 18th of 1895 in Decatur, Wise County, Texas.
He appears on the 1900 Draco, Wise County, Texas Census with his parents and three of his brothers, Edward Mancell, Thomas Jefferson and James Oliver.
The family must have relocated to Paradise, Wise County, Texas some time between 1900 and 1902/3, because the delayed birth certificate for Virgil Denton Doss lists his place of birth as Paradise, Wise County, Texas.
In 1908, the family relocated to Wilbarger County, Texas.
He appears on the 1910 Wilbarger County, Texas Census with his mother and father and two of his brothers, William and Virgil.
Family lore is that he and Vera laid eyes on one another during a buggy ride to church and fell in love with each other at first sight. It was a whirlwind romance and they were married a short time later.
He married Vera Mae Crawford on January 7th of 1918 in Wilbarger County, Texas.
The couple went on to have four children, Katherine Elizabeth Doss, Martha Jolene Doss, Robert Felix Doss and Barbara Ann Doss.
Barbara's birth certificate notes that he worked as a Carpenter.
A short time after he married, he served in the Army during WWI from June 24th 1918 to July 2nd 1919.
He appears in the 1930, Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas Census with his wife, Vera Mae and three of their children, Katherine, Jolene and Robert.
He appears on the 1940, Amarillo, Potter County, Texas Census with his wife and three of their children, Jolene, Robert and Barbara. He is noted as working as a Carpenter at this time.
His service records were destroyed in the National Archives Fire of 1973, but a pay voucher remains, along with his WWI and WWII Draft Cards.
His service number was 3-504-438.
His Social Security Number was 456-09-7054
From what his daughter, Katherine, told me, he served in France and when he came home, he brought back a beautiful cameo brooch and some kind of fish for Vera Mae, who kept a fish tank.
He worked in the construction field during his lifetime and was a hardworking man.
In 1947, Felix Doss is noted as living in San Angelo, Texas at the time of his mother's passing.
He died at 4202 South Polk Street, Amarillo, Texas in Katherine Elizabeth Doss' living room. He was on his way to go to California to visit a woman that he had met after Vera Mae's death, whom he wanted to marry. Katherine Elizabeth was the only child of his that approved of this second potential marriage. The name of the woman he was going to meet remains a mystery.
