On June 1, 1886, when he was about 20 years old, he filed a patent for a Spring-Bending Machine. On the same date he assigned one third of the patent rights to his brother-in-law named Cyrus M. Shelton, who was also his patent attorney.
In 1889, when he was about 23 years old, his name appeared in the Bridgeport City Directory. He listed his occupation that year as "Grocer", and his address showed that he was a boarder at his brother-in-law's house at 333 Iranistan Avenue.
By the time his sister named Adelaide (Gray) Shelton wrote out her will on June 2, 1893, he had already passed on. Her will mentioned that her daughter had inherited some of his estate.
His grave was probably located near his father's grave site in Bridgeport, CT, or near his mother's first grave site at Oak Grove Cemetery in Brunswick, GA. His mother's first grave site was placed hastily at Oak Grove Cemetery during a yellow fever epidemic, and therefore it was later moved to a family plot in Palmetto Cemetery.
His death occurred sometime between 1888 and 1893. His grave site remains unverified. The Gray family cenotaph marker at this cemetery in Bridgeport, CT does not include his name.
He passed on before the age of 27. He was survived by his mother, and his sister named Adeline.
