DIED—In Alexandria town on Saturday morning, Aug. 3rd, Mr. Lars Hanson, aged 94 years, 3 mos., 19 days. Deceased is one of Douglas county's oldest pioneers having lived here over 25 years. He is the father of Hans and Christ Larson, prosperous farmers of same town and was undoubtedly one of the oldest men in the county at the time of his death. Mr. Hanson while living in the old country was prominent in political circles and did much toward bringing about religious freedom in Denmark in 1849.

The gravestone says he is born in Sjelland (Sjælland, the island where the cities of Copenhagen and Køge are located, near Stevns. there are other settlers in the area of Osakis and Nelson in eastern Douglas county from that area. (namely, Hans and Inger Jensen, he was from Varpelev, near Stevns.)

By 1880, Lars Hansen Bjælkerup is living with his daughter Anna Hansen, age 11, at the home of his son Hans Larsen (and Hans's wife Bolette Larsen) Lars Hansen Bjælkerup's wife Maren and son Olaf are not there. The wife could be dead, but Olaf would be 20, so it's possible that he is somewhere else.
