Harold James Armstrong was born on July 21, 1941 in Harrisburg, Poinsett County, Arkansas. On October 23, 1942, 13 months after his birth, his mother Gracie L. Henry married Claude H. Armstrong in Tyronza. (Claude was the son of William F. "Will" Armstrong, Gracie's mother's brother, making Claude and Gracie first cousins.) Harold James is presumed to have been Claude's son.

Gracie's sister, Edna, has said that Harold James fell off the porch of his family's home. He died of respiratory failure due to obstructive hydrocephalus two days later on May 6, 1944. His burial place is unknown, though he may be buried in Greenville, Mississippi per his death certificate. (I have submitted a photo request in an attempt to confirm he is buried at Harmony Baptist Cemetery in Walnut with his family.)
