In Hunting Mishap
The tragedy of a hunting accident
shocked the Milltown community
last Thursday, Oct. 12,
when word spread that Leroy
Nelson, 15, son of Walter Nelson.
had been accidentally shot and
killed at 11 a. m. that day. It
happened about 11 miles south-
west of Grantsburg, in town of
Anderson, Burnett county, where
Leroy, accompanied by his dad
and Herb Shoholm and son, Gor-
don Shoholm, had gone duck
hunting. According to Sheriff
Iverson, Gordon Sboholm shot at
a partridge, but just as he press-
ed the trigger Leroy stepped in-
to the line of fire and received
the full. charge from a 12 ga
shotgun m the back of his right
shoulder, at 8 or 10 feet. Death
Sheriff George Iverson and
Coroner Ray Swedberg investigated
and found death to have
been caused wholly through accident,
No blame whatever has
been directed toward Gordon
Shoholm. It was one of those
strange things that seem to happen
once out of ten thousand
Leroy Walter Nelson was born
June.26 1930, at Milltown. He
attended the Milltown public
school, and was in the 8th grade
at the time of his death. His
brief but active life was spent in
and around Milltown.
He was preceded in death by
his mother and one sister, Iola
Dorothy. Left to mourn his passing
are, His father, Walter; sisters; two
sisters, Vera &Ruby; his stepmother,
Mrs.Walter (Bernice) Nelson; a
half-brother, Marvin Hansen
half-sister, Mary Elenore: Many
near and distant relative, school
class-mates and many friends.
He has been a member of the
Milltown 4-H Club, and of
Boy Scouts of America.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, Oct. 15. at 1:30 at the
home and two o'clock at the
Milltown Baptist Church, Rev.
Lloyd E. Sprecher, officiating.
Burial was at Milltown cemetery.
Pall beaters were Evald Gjern-
Earl and Richard Weeks.
Everett Parkins. Harvey and Art
Mattson. A quartette consisting
of Misses Lyndell Holland and
Doris Coen. and Jerome Palmer
and Harley Slaikeu sang "He
Hideth My Soul," Barbara and
Roger Jasperson sang a duet.
"Nothing Satisfies But Jesus,"
and the Young People's choir
sane "Near the Cross." The attendance
at the funeral was exceptionally large. The floral of-

and numerous offerings to
Missions were made 'in memory
of this fine lad who was so sud-
denly called away. . .. .
The entire community joins in
extending sincere sympathy to
those who mourn.
