Shale Hopper Mishap Kills Summit Worker
Peoa: Summit County.
Bert Tolman Brimhall 45 of Marion was killed early Sunday when he was buried under shale in a grinding plant hopper at the Utelite Corp. plant near here. Mr Brimhall had changed shifts with another worker so he could be off Sunday afternoon to name and bless his granddaughter. This was not believed to be a factor in the accident however.
Summit County Sheriff Ronald R. Robinson said Mr. Brimhall had gone to the top of the large hopper at 3:30 a.m. to remedy a stoppage. About a half hour later fellow workmen noticed that the opening in the bottom of the bin was stopped up, preventing shale from feeding onto a conveyor belt. They investigated and found Mr. Brimhall's body caught in the opening and covered with shale.

WWII Veteran

Bert is my first cousin. I really did not get to know him as we lived in a different county. But it was such a tragedy for his family when this accident killed him. Rest in Peace Bert. Cousin Esther
