JOSEPH BEHNKE DIES TODAY, 79
Joseph J Behnke, 79, of 1344 Oakes St., Marinette, died this morning at Marinette General Hospital. He had been a patient there for three weeks. He was born May 14, 1893, in Marinette, and married the former Alma Salesky on Nov. 7, 1924, at Menominee. Mr. Behnke was employed for many years at the former Marinette Paper Co. of Marinette and worked for many yearsfor Steffke Freight Co., retiring in 1959. Mr. Behnke was a member of World War I Barracks and served in the Army in France during World War I. He was wounded in action. Mr. Behnke was an avid hunter and fisherman in the area.
Surviors include his widow; three daughters, Mrs. John Tanguary (Alice Peck/Behnke of Dallas, Tex; Mrs. George Tomek (Donna Behnke) of Des Plaines, Ill, and Mrs Gordon Mack (Joyce Behnke) of Omaha, Neb.; a son, Fran Behnke of Green Bay, and 10 grandchildren. Three sisters and a brother preceded him in death. Friends may call Zeitler-Purath funeral home in Marinette from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Final rites will be held there Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. James Feely officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. World War I Barracks will hold a visitation there at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Behnke - Funeral services for Joseph J. Behnke, Marinette resident 79, died Wednesday, were held today at Zeitle-Purath funeral home. The Rev. James Feely officiated and burial was in Forest Home Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clement Heil, Albert Behrendt, Thomas Tomek, Jeffrey Mack and Jay Behnke.
