Augustus Marshall Smith was about thirty-five and Lucy White was twenty-five when they married in 1902 in Abbeville County, South Carolina.

They became the proud owner of the mansion on Main Street in 1908 when his father, Joel died.

The 1910 census revealed Augustus was a retail merchant of a dry goods store. They owned their home free of mortgage. Lucy and her parents were all born in South Carolina. Augustus had been married twice and Lucy once. They had been married seven years and had two children both surviving. Household members; Augustus M (42), Lucy W (32), George W (5), Augustus M (3) and a servant, Janie Valentine (18).

The 1920 census revealed Augustus was an employer of a general merchandise store. His son, Joel his wife were living with them. Household members; Augustus M (52), Lucy (41), W Joel (25), Kathleen (24), George (15), Augustus (13) and Sarah (8).

Sarah Smith (Wilson)(b.1912 d.1993)

They had been married about twenty-six years when Augustus died on March 2, 1928 in Abbeville, Abbeville County, South Carolina.

The 1930 census revealed Lucy was a widow and a farmer. Her property value was $10,000 and she had a radio. Household members: Lucy (52) and Sarah P (19).

The 1940 census revealed Lucy had completed one year of college and still lived in the same house as in 1935. Her property value was $8,000. Household members: Lucy (62) and Sarah P (27).

Death record revealed Lucy White Smith was a widow and lived at 88 N. Main Street. She was born on Jan 5, 1878 and her parents were George White and Sara Eliza Perrin. Her husband was Augustus M. Smith. She died at 8:25 p.m. on Nov 27, 1950 of heart disease at the age of 72 years 10 months 22 days in Abbeville County, South Carolina. Interment was at Long Cane Cemetery.

After Lucy died in 1950, the mansion was owned by their children. By 1993, the last three owners were; George Smith's widow, Augustus Smith Jr's widow and his only daughter, Sarah Smith Wilson. Sarah Smith Wilson lived there until her death in 1993 and the house was sold to a retired General and his wife who have made all the necessary repairs to retain it's beauty. Over the years the house address changed from 88 N. Main to 400 N. Main and finally became 500 N. Main.

{{Passes At Home Here Monday Night. Funeral Services Held At Her Late Residence Wednesday Afternoon At 3 O'clock; Interment In Long Cane Cemetery.

Mrs. Lucy White Smith, 72 beloved Abbeville resident, died at her home on North Main Street Monday night, Nov, 27, at 8:45 o'clock, following several weeks of declining health.

Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late George White and Sarah Perrin White, pioneer residents of Abbeville, and the wife of Augustus Marshal Smith. Mr Smith died a number of years ago.

Mrs Smith was a loyal and faithful member of the Abbeville Presbyterian Church and took great interest in its affairs. She was greatly loved by the congregation and endeared herself to everyone. She had a host of friends who will be saddened at learning of her passing.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs James Wilson of Abbeville; two sons, George W. Smith of Orlando, Florida and Augustus M. Smith of Anderson; one step-son, W. Joel Smith, Sr. of Abbeville; two sisters, Mrs George M. Wright and Miss Sarah White, both of Abbeville. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held at the family home, Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock conducted by the Rev. William Howard Kryder and the Rev. George M. Telford. Burial was in the family plot at Long Cane Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers were: John White, Broadus Shaw Sr, Lewis C. Harrison, Amos B. Morse, W.T. McLeod and Perrin Wright.

Flower bearers were: Mrs B.F. Shaw, Mrs. James B. White, Mrs. William B. Chandler, Mrs C.A. Gibson, Mrs. John McDonald, Miss Janet Calvert, Miss Elizabeth Wilson and Miss Lillian Wilson.}}
