Editor Southern Messenger:
Mrs. Mary Conklin, widow of the late David Conklin, died at her home in Washington, La., on Jan 28, and was buried the next evening from the Catholic Church. Rev. Father Teurlings officiating. Mrs. Conklin was 74 years of age, a native of Belfast, Ireland, and had been a resident of Washington since 1859. She was highly respected and her death was regretted by all, but mostly by her seven children, all grown, three daughters and four sons, who have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. R.I.P.
Peaceful, mother, be thy slumber,
Peaceful in thy grave so low;
Thou no more wilt join our number,
Thou no more our song wilt know.
Yet again we hope to meet thee,
When the day of life is fled,
And in Heaven with joy to greet thee,
Where no farewell tears are shed.
