Annie was born in Holmes County, Mississippi to parents Terry and Tommie Ann Lomax. Her mother died before she was 8 years old and her father before she was 15. After her parents death she lived with her grandfather Houston until she moved to Batesville where she attended school.

Annie married Robert Louis Pou in 1913. They moved briefly to Oklahoma where both taught in an Indian school and then to Texas by 1915 where they lived in College Station, and then to Dallas by 1919 for the rest of their lives. Gaggy and Pop had three children and seven grandchildren.

Daughter Ann recalls that "Pop and Gaggy on their honeymoon to Canada were introduced to buttermilk and they introduced it in Texas A&M. It's wonderful.,,,"" Gaggy was always my best friend."
