Obituary for H. M. Lueckenhoff; One of Osage county's older citizens and for years a democratic political leader, was called to rest at 2 o'clock Saturday morning, February 4, when Herman M. Lueckenhoff, 81, died at Linn Manor Rest Home after an illness of several years duration.
A son of the late Bernard and Katherine Westerman Lueckenhoff, Herman Mark Lueckenhoff was born at Westphalia on May 6, 1874 he was the last member of that family.
He was educated in the schools at Westphalia and Linn, and as a young man taught several terms of school in the western part of the county. In 1904 he was married to Miss Emma Copeland of Freeburg who with a daughter, Mrs. Jack Karsch of Montgomery City and a son Connie of Linn are the survivors. There are two grandchildren, Jack Bradley of Brunswick, Mo., and Miss Sue Lueckenhoff of Linn, and two great grandchildren, besides a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
After Mr. and Mrs. Lueckenhoff were married they conducted the Rock Island Hotel in Freeburg for many years.
In 1910, he was appointed deputy county clerk by Lafe Vaughn, who was elected that year to the office of county clerk. In 1918 Mr. Lueckenhoff was elected county clerk and re-elected for three successive terms, serving 16 years in that office. He later became cashier of the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Linn, after which he engaged in business until his health failed several years ago. In his position of public trust Mr. Lueckenhoff established an enviable reputation for efficiency and courtesy, and regarded as one of the most popular men ever to hold the office of county clerk in Osage county.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at St. George Catholic Church in Linn by the pastor, Rev. B. A. Timpe. Buriel with Morton Service followed in the Linn Public cemetery. (Unterrified Democrat, Linn, Missouri)JMB
