George Green Grimes was the son of Hiram Alexander Grimes and Nancy Ann Kuykendall. George's father died when he was 2, and his mother later married William Asbury "Bill" Miles.

He served for 6 months at the end of the Civil War for the confederacy.

George married Elizabeth Ann Burnett on Dec. 29, 1869. They were the parents of 9 children - Laura Belle; David Alexander; Nancy Cyrena, William Preston, Mary Elizabeth, Matilda Emily, Addie Cornelia, Ella Ethel and Armenia Eglentine.
