TOCCOA, GA -- Mr. Edwin "Red" Hayes Mulkey, age 88, 449 Orlando Drive, Toccoa, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at the Stephens County Hospital.

The son of the late George and Lena Bailey Mulkey, he was born January 11, 1915 in Stephens County, Georgia where he has lived all of his life. He retired from LeTourneau-Wabco Company after forty years of service and was a member of Toccoa First United Methodist Church where he was a longtime chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee, a member and former president of the Wesley Sunday School Class, and past president of the Methodist Men's Club. Red was respected for the manner for which he steadfastly held to his convictions and for his capacity to always be a friend.

Survivors include his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Mary Stephenson Mulkey of the home and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, 11 o'clock, at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jim Bocian, the Reverend Claude Smithmier, the Reverend Jack Lamb, and the Reverend Stephen M. Gower officiating.

The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers and will please assemble at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, Gordon Telford, Horace Hemphill, Tommy Williams, Dean Scarborough, Rick Hackney, David Plaisted, Jack Smith, and Pete Taylor.

The Curtis Wesley Sunday School Class will serve as the Honorary Escort and will please assemble at the First United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

The family will be at the home on Orlando Drive, Toccoa, and received friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Flowers are optional and those who wish may give memorials to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 429 East Tugalo Street, Toccoa, GA 30577, in memory of Mr. Red Mulkey.

Interment will be in the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Edwin "Red" Hayes Mulkey.
