Loy Purdy Sr.
Loy Purdy Sr., 79 of 196 Mize Rd., died at the residence Tuesday morning, Sept. 12. Although Mr. Purdy had been in ill health for a long number of years, his death was sudden and was attributed to a heart attack.
The son of the late Joseph Bartow and Tallulah Stamey Purdy, he was born in Habersham County, May 19, 1893 but had resided in Toccoa and Stephens County for the last 51 years. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Purdy was affiliated with Trogdon Furniture Company for some 25 years. He was a veteran of World War I, having served with the Quartermaster Corp of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Purdy was a faithful member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Toccoa and had served as both Sunday school teacher and church clerk.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Kitty Elizabeth Grist Purdy; three daughters, Miss Sarah Purdy of the residence, Mrs. Roy Holland and Mrs. Enos Keller, both of Toccoa; one son, Loy Purdy Jr. of Toccoa; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister, Miss Myrtle Purdy, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Cordie Purdy, both of Martin and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Toccoa with Rev. Fred W. Kendrick, Rev. Fred Duncan and Rev. T. W. Waits officiating. The body will lie in state at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home.
The following are requested to serve as pallbearers and will please assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday; Roy Holland, Harold Collins, Harold Deal, Melvin Westmoreland, Ronnie Holland and Nelson Shirley. Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens with Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
