Asa C. Halsey, 83, of Hindsboro, died at 5:07 p.m. Monday (Nov. 7, 1988) at Douglas Living Center in Mattoon.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hindsboro Christian Church with the Rev. Steve DeVore officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery southeast of Hindsboro. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Taber Funeral Home in Oakland.
He was born Oct. 20, 1905, in McCune, Kansas, the son of Grover C. and Elizabeth Henry Halsey. He married Frances May Combs, Oct. 30, 1938, in Alma. She survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. John (Lorretta Ann) Wiley of Quincy, Ind., Mrs. John (Audrey) Van Voorhis of Herrick, Asalee McMillen of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Roger (Rhoda Mary) Ashmore of Oakland; two brothers, Buford "Pete" of Redmon and Paul "Buck" of Charleston; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother and sister.
Mr. Halsey was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Hindsboro Christian Church where he served as a deacon and elder. He served 12 years as town clerk of Seven Hickory Township and was supervisor for one term.
Memorials may be made to the Hindsboro Christian Church.
