HOWARD EDGAR HATCH
Howard Edgar Hatch, aged 50 years. 11 months and 7 days of Route Two Everson, Wash passed away in Beatty's Veteran Facility at Walla-Walla, Washington, Saturday morning at 4:30 am. After a long illness, although he had been taken to the hospital only last Friday morning by his son, Vernon and brother Milton Hatch.
As a boy, Howard came with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Edgar Hatch from Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1901. His father purchased 160 acres from Don Wood in the Van Buren district, the west half of which is still being farmed by the Perry Hatch and Howard Hatch families.
Mr. Hatch was a World War One veteran, having enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October 1917, receiving an honorable discharge in June 1919, after seeing active service at home and abroad. He was a member of the Mt. Baker American Legion Post and a military funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in Gillies Undertaking Parlors, Sumas Wash in charge of the American Legion.
He leaves to mourn his death, the widow Ragna Judith Hatch, three sons, Howard Vernon and Norman Eugene, at home; Stanley Maurice, Seaman 2nd class U.S.N.R Memphis Tennessee, who will graduate from the Naval Air Technical Training Center as an aviation machinist; three brothers, Walter of Olympia, Perry, Route 2 Everson and Milton of Fort Steilacoom, Washington; two sisters Mrs. Ida Erickson, Bellingham and Mrs. Nancy Kirkman of Route Two, Everson; and one aunt Mrs. Meda Tuell of Olympia, Wash and several nices and nephews.
Pall-bearers chosen were six neighbors, Roy Deem, John Hoy, Thomas Carmen, John Horan, Henry and Robert Blow.
Interment followed in the family plot in Lakeside Cemetery.
