Beamon died at 1pm Saturday in a Detroit Hospital after an illness of one month. Death was attributed to lung cancer. Born in Ashe County, N.C., Feb 6 1899, he was the son of the late Riley and Laura Jane Beamon. A retired coal miner, he had lived in Rhodell 32 years before moving to Detroit in 1954.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Nannie Beamon, Detroit; three sons, Charles Oscar Beamon Jr., William and Darrell, all of Detroit, four daughters, Miss Evelyn Beamon, and Miss Janie Beamon both of Detroit; Mrs. Gladys Pritchett and Miss Marie Beamon, both of Rhodell; two sisters Mrs. Victoria Gilley, West Jefferson, N.C. and Mrs. Maggie Howell, Bluefield; three brothers, George, Jumping Branch; Lee, Rock Falls, MD., and Claude, Odd; and six grandchildren.
The body is being returned to the Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley and will be taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pritchett at Rhodell at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
